When we moved into our new home last August, I wanted to create an outdoor space that was both comfortable and pretty yet functional and convienent. So, instead of putting our vegetable garden out in the back forty where it would be a hassle keeping deer and coons out of it, the idea of raised beds struck a fancy for me.
Mike and I started building our beds in January of this year (2012). Since he works on the railroad, well used rail ties were cheap and accessable.

We filled the beds with compost that our neighbour had built up for over ten years! That ment about 40 trips to the compost pile with the wheel barrel.Lots of work but I think it will be worth the effort!
